Kelly Gushue Empowers Women to Invest and Build Wealth
January 17, 2025
Please share a brief introduction about yourself and your business:
I’m Kelly Gushue and created Personal Finance Warrior as a platform to empower women in investing. My mission is to help women like you grow their wealth, elevate their financial confidence and make an even greater impact in the world. By the year 2030, women will manage over 65% of investments in the US. Let’s talk about women’s financial power! I felt called to step forward to help women learn to invest and maximize this financial power!
My biggest inspiration is my Mom, Maryann. As a homemaker, and mother of four, she faced a defining moment when she needed to leave my father and was cut off from the only bank account. Despite the tremendous challenge, she bravely chose to rebuild her life and provide for our family, juggling multiple jobs to create a new future on her own terms. Her resilience taught me the power of financial independence – and sparked my dedication to help other women gain control over their financial futures.
My own journey has taken me through a successful career in finance, including roles as a Portfolio Strategist and Financial Advisor. Today, I focus on helping women build their financial knowledge through powerful training on money mindset, my proprietary money system, and education on what’s inside your portfolio.
I’m thrilled to join Entreprenista as your advocate, educator and thought leader in Women & Investing! Let’s take charge of our wealth, our impact and our futures together!
Who are your customers?
I work with ambitious women who are ready to take control of their finances and start investing. My clients are often successful female entrepreneurs with money spread across multiple accounts, funds flowing in from their business, but without a clear plan to manage it all. Sound familiar? You’re not alone! My clients are busy, thriving leaders who know it’s time to prioritize their financial future—and they want the guidance and shortcuts a trusted expert can provide. If you’re ready to make managing your money easy and empowering, I’m here to help!
What was your background prior to starting your own business?
I have spent my entire career in the Investment Industry! I love it! Making investing fun and accessible for everyone is my passion. My journey began as a summer intern on the trading floor on Wall Street, where I had a front seat on the investment process. Later, I worked as a research analyst in San Francisco, focusing on tech stocks, and then spent four years living in Shanghai and Hong Kong as a China research specialist. Most recently, I was a portfolio strategist, advising clients about portfolios and speaking to live audiences about investing. Each of these roles fueled my drive to make investing exciting and accessible for women like you!
What made you take the leap to start your own business?
While reading March Shimoff’s best-selling book, “Happy for No Reason,” I asked myself her key question about purpose, I realized my purpose was much bigger than researching stocks. I was here on this planet to share my joy of investing, my understanding of the industry, and my ability to make complex topics easy to understand for women. I became a Financial Coach to teach, write and talk about the importance of women and investing in order to change the financial landscape for women and for future generations.
What is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way so far and what have you learned from it?
One of my biggest challenges has been resisting the urge to follow fleeting market trends instead of staying grounded in my core values. In a world of social media and quick fixes, it’s easy to get swept up. My clients have shown me that staying true to one’s values is what truly resonates, and that real success happens over multiple years. I have learned to listen to my clients, and nearly every month, I hear from clients that “our work together changed their lives.” That is the most rewarding part of my work! When a woman learns to invest, it has a ripple effect on her family and community! She becomes a trusted resource on money and investing for her family, children, siblings, and friends. It’s amazing to watch!
What accomplishment are the most proud of to date in your business?
One of my proudest accomplishments has been speaking on stages to inspire women to take charge of their financial future. One of my favorite experiences was speaking to a women’s group at Macy’s Headquarters in New York City. The energy in the room was electric! The audience with about 75 ladies was so hungry and eager for information. Moments like thee remind me why I do this work. I love when my message resonates with audiences and they leave energized to take action with investing!
Do you have any recent wins from the last year that you'd like to celebrate with our community?
When I work with female entrepreneurs, and they follow my Money Mastery System, they love the peace of mind and financial confidence they gain from knowing where their money is going, at last! They also have an easy system to follow so they can stop ignoring their personal finances and finally invest alongside heir business. The biggest win this year was the value for one client that totaled more than $25K from some easy steps the entrepreneur took to manage her money. These are my favorite success stories!
What's next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?
I love working with female entrepreneurs! They are ambitious to grow their business and expand their influence in the world! Money & investing supercharges the ambition of expanding their influence in the world! I can’t wait to host a group Money Mastermind in 2025 that will focus on Money Mindset, Money Organization and Money Growth! This mastermind will provide a space for women to learn, share, and take their financial power to the next level. Stay tuned!
What is your top productivity tip?
We need to celebrate more of our wins! I am guilty of not doing this so I embrace a “Friday Finisher” list (term from Brendon Burchard). Each Friday at 3pm, I summary of my list of wins. It has been a game changer! I used to make my list of things I didn’t finish during the week and it make me feel terrible as I started the weekend. Now I celebrate my wins! While I add my unfinished tasks to the following week, it is amazing how much we complete each week and acknowledge our wins!
On the flip side, how do you avoid burnout?
Admittedly, I have struggled with burnout since launching my own business. This year, I have focused on creating new practices to monitor my energy level. It has been helpful for me to take breaks throughout the day. This can be so challenging as we have back-to-back calls and problems that arise during the day. I also schedule at least one “fun/social” phone call so I feel connected to friends/community every single day.
What is your approach to work-life balance / integration?
Like most entrepreneurs, it has been a struggle for me. I have a battery that starts at 100% and each day it runs down to 10%. I was finding that my battery was at 10% by lunchtime from stress and barreling through activities. Now, I include breaks and have more down time in my schedule throughout the day. I have been focused on this for the last 4 months, and sometimes it is trial and error, so it is an ongoing learning process for me.
What is one thing you wish you had known when you started your Entreprenista journey?
There is so much personal development work when you take on being an entrepreneur. It is very humbling. This is what I tell women who are thinking about starting a new business – ger ready for some major personal development and upleveling! I also say entrepreneurs need to invest in coaching programs and supportive communities like Entreprenista.
When hiring, what is your go-to interview question?
I am looking for grit. I like to ask: “Tell me about a challenging experience, your role, and how you helped to resolve a situation.” If there’s no grit in the story, then I move on to the next person.
What's the one app on your phone you absolutely cannot live without and why?
Timer. I set timers for everything. We are busy ladies! Now I focus on taking more breaks throughout the day and set a timer for breaks, including dance breaks.
What is your favorite business tool or solution and why?
My favorite business tool is Linkedin. I enjoy staying in touch with my network and my friends who live all over the world. There is tremendous reach with LinkedIn posts, so I enjoy creating content for this channel.
