Describe your business in a few words?
I am blessed to say that I, Julisa Medina, will be a published children’s book author. However, I am not only an author, I am a woman on a mission to continuously grow and inspire others to never give up hope. (Check out my book here!)
What made you take the leap to start your own business?
In order to take a leap of faith and start my own business, I had to learn to love me and appreciate the woman that I am.
It wasn’t an easy road but the challenges and obstacles I went through in my past have made me who I am today.
Since learning to love myself, I’ve been on a spiritual journey of growth. I am blessed that I have aligned myself with entrepreneurs and so many amazing people who inspire me to become the best version of me.
What was your background prior to starting your own business?
Prior to starting my own business, I was a waitress, bartender, massage therapist, and a fitness competitor!
Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
Growing up, I never thought about being an entrepreneur because I was so conditioned to think, act, and operate a certain way! I was programmed to think that I had to work several jobs in order to make ends meet.
I had heard of others who had this calling of entrepreneurship and shifted their lifestyle to conform to this type of mentality.
However, how can anyone really be inspired or have this calling when they doubt their ability to do more, struggling with depression, and having limited beliefs? This was ME… until I met someone who inspired me and showed me a different way of life..
Take us back to when you first launched your business, what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?
Honestly, I was new to all of this, so I really didn’t have a marketing strategy except for posting on social media.
As I continued striving forward, I aligned myself with some amazing people who were able to assist me in marketing. Along with, asking questions from other authors about the best way to market my book.
I am truly blessed that I started working with this exceptional young woman, Mackenzie Abbott who has helped me with (PR) Public Relations. If it wasn’t for Mackenzie, then I wouldn’t be featured in a couple of magazines.
Regardless of the many incredible people I’ve met, not everything went as planned during certain marketing strategies. However, life never goes as planned! We can choose to look at life as a lesson learned and simply have faith that by being more cognizant and more vigilant next time, then things will run much more smoothly.
We always learn the most from our mistakes, share a time with us that you made a mistake or had a challenging time in business and what you learned from it?
We all go through challenges and make mistakes in life because no one is perfect. Yet, the one thing I have learned during this whole process, is to do extensive research prior to launching any type of business.
I made the mistake of not gathering enough research prior; nor starting my Kickstarter page months in advance.
I am now in the process of having someone help me with my Kickstarter page because the person who I had hired prior got busy with other projects.
Lesson learned, everything is figureoutable; hence, find someone who has the credentials to assist you or do it yourself.
What is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?
I am proud of the woman I have become. I say to myself, “I am a woman, hear me ROAR, “ but it's a silly figure of speech because I am a woman who learned to love herself and refuse to give up.
We all have that innate strength within us to accomplish anything in life, but it all starts with shifting your mindset.
How has your business or industry been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic?
Thankfully, my business has not been heavily impacted by COVID-19 pandemic.
I feel an immense compassion for others from around the world, but I am grateful that I get to work from home and spend time with family.
What's next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?
I feel as if 2021 is going to be a year of growth and badasserie for myself and many inspiring women.
I foresee so much potential within myself to persevere with my book and other business. In regards to my book, I have created a list of book titles that I plan to write within the next few years. I also had an idea that was just recently implanted in my mind to write my own story of struggles, obstacles and so much more.
The future is limitless; ideas from God and the universe keep transcending my mind. I have faith that I will be writing other books and inspiring so many people from around the world to never give up on themselves or their journey!
What is the biggest lesson you have learned in 2020?
The biggest lesson I learned from 2020 is that regardless of what transpires around the world, you have a choice to have faith, never give up, spread love and persevere.
In addition, I have learned that there are people in your life that are not going to support you on your journey of growth. It has nothing to do with you but it’s simply a reflection on them.
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were first starting your business?
I wish that I did more research prior to starting my business and aligning myself with extraordinary people who were more supportive, helpful, and willing to assist me on this journey.
How have you managed to stay grounded this year?
I am blessed to say that I have managed to stay grounded because of what I’ve been studying the past couple years. I’ve been studying with my mentors who are Bob Proctor's top coaches from around the world. They have helped me to replace fear with faith, get rid of limited beliefs and break through that terror barrier in order to take the leap of faith towards my business.
I am forever grateful to have them in my life especially during Covid where most people lived in fear, worry and doubt; whereas, I chose to have faith, a better understanding and in turn, this put my body at ease with unnecessary stress.
Do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?
I most definitely believe in work/life balance. The majority of us need to work in order to create the life that we desire and envision for ourselves.
Life is about balance! It’s about creating that balance in your personal, professional and spiritual life.
The best advice I can give is to create a daily method of operation and/or a system that you can implement every day to create that balance.
What's something our audience would be surprised to learn about you?
Surprisingly, as a Puerto Rican woman, I don’t know how to speak a lot of Spanish. As a result, I am looking forward to going to Spain or another Spanish speaking country for several months to embrace the culture, learn to speak more Spanish, write a couple more books, work and breathe in the beauty!
What are your top 3 tips to stay productive each day?
- Create A good morning routine... My morning routine consists of waking up, saying 10 things that I’m grateful for, drinking 16 ounces of water that I leave by the bed and journal.
- To do the most important thing first, which for me, is what I stated above and implementing a workout; otherwise, I most likely will not workout during the day. In addition, while working out, I listen to personal development and my life script.
- Plan ahead the night before 5 key things that you would like to accomplish the following day.
Doing all of the above has helped me immensely. It is key to have a good morning routine that will raise your vibration and hopefully assist with having a euphoric and enlightening day.
