Emily Jayne Dean Helps Women Grow Their Businesses Without Sacrificing Well-Being
September 27, 2024
Hi, Emily Jayne! Please share a brief introduction about yourself and your business:
Hi, I'm Emily Jayne. I am the Founder of a boutique Marketing Consultancy, Bolt & Bloom, where I am on a mission to help women grow disruptor businesses without losing their peace or sacrificing their well-being. Now, I bring the same innovative thinking to late stage startup & mid-size wellness brands that spark real change. I wholeheartedly believe Founder health should be a core business KPI and know women will lead the change in making better well-being good business.
Who are your customers?
Female and nonbinary Founders of purpose-driven wellness companies.
What was your background prior to starting your own business?
I'm a full-service marketer, seasoned strategist, and storyteller with 15 years of experience across global entertainment brands, Fortune 500 companies, startups, agencies, and media publishers in NYC such as Paramount, Nickelodeon, CBS, MTV, Comedy Central, Well+Good, Verizon, and Lexus.
What made you take the leap to start your own business?
My own personal healing journey, yoga teacher training, and my experience with grief/loss inspired me to create a consulting approach that connects mindset and mindfulness practices into my marketing consulting. Simultaneously, after seeing too many companies prioritize profit over people, I decided to take the leap into SHE-EO territory in Feb 24'. I wholeheartedly believe Founder health should be a business KPI and women will lead the change in making better well-being good business.
Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
I always found myself applying an entrepreneurial mindset to each role I've had — always asking 'why' and 'why not'. Needless to say, it's an itch I've been wanting to scratch!
What is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way so far and what have you learned from it?
Promoting myself. I LOVE and thrive as a campaigner for others, but pivoting to self-promotion has been difficult. I've since learned that the only way to live a life by my own design requires me to start telling my own story.
What accomplishment are the most proud of to date in your business?
All the amazing women I've connected with along the way. Women have an amazing ability to life each other up and share in the struggle.
What's next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?
This year I'm focusing on building community, fostering collaborations with fellow Entreprenistas, and helping women achieve their business dreams. I'll also be launching free resource(s) such as, 'breath-work for the workplace', and a 'how to' guide on creating conscious KPIs for your business. Eventually, I'll launch a reoccurring "Breathe w. Em" digital series...but still working out the kinks on that one!
What is your top productivity tip?
1) Time blocking: 30-40 minute bursts throughout the day (I use a timer) coupled with a mid-day walk (or dance party) allow me to stay productive without draining my energy. 2) Gamify the week: This felt silly at first, but each day has a theme with "main quests" and "side quests" which has helped bring fun and joy into my daily routine. I also make it a habit to avoid screens for the first hour of the day and get sunlight in my eyes first thing in the AM.
On the flip side, how do you avoid burnout?
Ah, the basis of my whole business! The headline? Cultivating a sense of self-awareness and carving out time to listen to the body is key.
What is one thing you wish you had known when you started your Entreprenista journey?
That taking 'the leap' is scary as hell but when embraced can also be the force that keeps you going.
Are you a Mamaprenista? If so, please share your best advice for simultaneously managing a business and a family:
I am childless by choice, but have an unmeasurable amount of respect for women who juggle both entrepreneurship and motherhood. Heroes <3
What's the one app on your phone you absolutely cannot live without and why?
Spotify...Canva...and I'm loving Open's meditation app as of late.
What is your favorite business tool or solution and why?
Notion! It allows me to organize my mind and workflows brilliantly. Also, Hemingway Editor has proven to be a great writing tool.
What advice do you have for aspiring Entreprenistas?
The world needs you. Keep going!
