Tina Sconhoft on Her Prenatal, Birth & Postpartum Doula Care Company
Hi, Tina! Please share a brief introduction about yourself and your business:
Hi, I’m Tina Sconhoft, a wife and mother to three grown children. I co-founded a Birth and Postpartum Doula agency almost 20 years ago. I took a leap of faith and went out on my own while launching BIRTHday Doulas of South Florida in 2022. We specialize in pre-conception, pregnancy, birth, and the fourth trimester while helping families create positive, life-changing experiences in their journey to parenthood.
Who are your customers?
Families trying to conceive, pregnant women, and the post-partum period.
What was your background prior to starting your own business?
I worked in the construction industry.
Take us back to when you first launched your business; what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?
Word of mouth mostly, social media is not my strongest attribute.
What is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way so far and what have you learned from it?
My competitors or people price comparing and fishing. Social media…I don’t love it. I’m also not very tech savvy so that’s been the biggest challenge for me by far.
We’re here to support you throughout your entire journey! What accomplishment are the most proud of to date in your business?
Venturing out on my own after having a business partner for 16 years.
Do you have any recent wins from the last year that you’d like to celebrate with our community?
We were the only agency in Palm Beach County to have served a family of quadruplet baby girls!
What’s next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?
More online mentorship programs geared toward aspiring doulas. More online classes, a podcast, and maybe a YouTube channel if I’m brave enough!
How do you avoid burnout?
I’m still working on that daily but I would say putting yourself on the calendar for “me” time at least once or twice a week. Whether that be a massage, a walk in the park, or a bike ride.
Taking time for yourself is critical! What is one thing you wish you had known when you started your Entreprenista journey?
It will take hard work, some long hours, some sweat, and some tears, but it will all be worth it.
What is your favorite business tool or solution and why?
I’m still trying to figure out the tech stuff, I’m very much old school and still have journal calendars and I use Microsoft Outlook for almost everything. Goals are to learn more!
What advice do you have for aspiring Entreprenistas?
Trust that you are unique and that there is no one quite like you, your product, or your services.
