Tara Clark of Modern Mom Probs and Modern Mom Style Box on aiming for effectiveness

Website-Header-Template-3-1

Describe your business in a few words:

I am an author, content creator, mother, and the Founder of Modern Mom Probs and Modern Mom Style Box.

I published my first parenting book, “Modern Mom Probs: A Survival Guide for 21st Century Mothers” in April of 2021. Additionally, my work has been featured in prominent publications including Buzzfeed, Today, Parents.com, Romper and Yahoo Life.

As an advocate for maternal mental health support, I am proud to be the 2021 Spokesperson of The Blue Dot Project, the national symbol for maternal mental health survivor-ship, support, and solidarity.

What was your background prior to starting your own business?

I began my career at Nickelodeon, overseeing social media for Nick Jr. and Nick@Nite. After becoming a mom and recognizing a hole in the online space for moms to authentically connect, I used my social media skillset to launch Modern Mom Probs in 2017.

Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?

Yes, about one year after graduating college I launched my first business– a production company.

Take us back to when you first launched your business, what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?

Modern Mom Probs has grown over the past 4 years, but the Modern Mom Style Box is my newest venture, which launched in September. The majority of my marketing strategy is based on organic social and paid social. So far so good…

What is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?

I am super proud of writing my book, “Modern Mom Probs: A Survival Guide for 21st Century Mothers” published by Post Hill Press.  The book is the analog version of my Instagram page. It helps modern moms know they are not alone in their experience.

Do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?

Balance is a concept that sets us up to fail. If one thing is balanced, then it implies that the next second something else can be unbalanced.

Aim for effectiveness, instead.

Ask yourself: Am I being an effective mother today?

An effective partner?

Effective in my other roles?

What have you achieved recently that you’d like to celebrate with our community?

The launch of Modern Mom Style Box, a clothing rental subscription service that gives members access to unlimited styles for one flat monthly fee. It solves a modern mom problem of “what to wear?”

What’s next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?

The expansion of Modern Mom Style Box and the adoption of rental clothes in general.
