Hi, Michelle! Please share a brief introduction about yourself and your business:

I’m Michelle Cooper, a Business Mentor, Author, Podcast Host, and International Speaker. What began as a journey of self-awareness and healing has boomed into over a million-dollar business empire with a mission to shift the trajectory of wealth, one entrepreneur at a time. I help you tidy up your money and the relationships you have around it so that you can run your business and life with confidence and clarity, ultimately ending the suffering around your finances.

What excites you about being an Entreprenista League member?

It seems like a great community. I’m hoping there will be some live events to attend.

There are plenty of live events to join—we can’t wait to see you! What made you take the leap to start your own business?

It just happened naturally. I just showed up and started helping people in my zone of genius and a business was formed!

What was your background prior to starting your own business?

I worked in corporate finance and risk management.

Take us back to when you first launched your business, what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?

When I realized that I had an actual business, I had a friend who was going to a BNI meeting every week. Her biz was growing rapidly and she invited me to attend. I ended up joining my local BNI chapter and learned all about how to network, how to be resourceful, and show up in service to others. I learned that when you give, you gain. I built my business to a monthly recurring revenue of $25k and then I got so busy that I couldn’t go anymore, which sucked. I struggled to figure out this growth in my business and the hiring process. That really held me back.

What is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way and what did you learn from it?

My biggest challenge was hiring. I didn’t understand the process and I had never done this before. My business was growing rapidly and I had to have people to fulfill the work that I was bringing in. I feel like I made every hiring mistake possible. I learned that this simply isn’t my area of expertise and I don’t want to learn it, so I ended up hiring a team member who is phenomenal at this! I fired myself from this role.

We all make pivots during the process! What is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?

Completely turning around a client’s business. When he sat across from me, he was going to declare bankruptcy. We worked together for two years to turn it around and he was able to sell it for $3MM.

How impressive! Do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?

I don’t believe in “balance.” I believe in harmony. Balance indicates that it’s even. I believe there are seasons. Sometimes we work more and sometimes we work less. It’s swings and roundabouts. And just be okay with it. It doesn’t mean anything about you or your business.

We love that philosophy. What’s a piece of advice you can share that you wish you’d known when you first started your Entreprenista journey?

Be okay with what is. Be in the present moment. That’s really all there is.

What have you achieved recently that you’d like to celebrate with our community?

I have built and am nurturing a leadership team that I am incredibly proud of. This enables me to do the things I love to do, while they run the day-to-day business.

What’s next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?

I plan to speak way more than I have been, possibly write a book and have tons of fun!
