Who are your customers?
Ambitious women who are pursuing their career professions and/or entrepreneurial dreams.
What was your background prior to starting your own business?
20-plus years of corporate success, working in various positions and promoted over the years into management.
What made you take the leap to start your own business?
After more than two decades of working faithfully in various corporate positions and roles, and after giving absolutely “my everything” to ensure project success on every level where I managed offshore and onshore teams. Our entire department was impacted by a major restructuring, which reminded me that in all that we do and all that we sacrifice for others, make sure to invest in yourself. Contribute to your own dreams and goals in business, in personal investments so that you are in a position to manage and enjoy life on your terms, regardless to the hard decisions, that often times are necessary within corporate, due to the economy.
Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
From my latter days of high school when I became a peer mediator to other high school students and as I soared in leadership during my years of college, it became apparent that taking ownership of my work and how I’ve been able to successfully lead teams, I’d likely end up as management leader within a company or owning my own company someday. And once I was nominated by the CIO of one company as an up and coming “Woman in Leadership” for the company, it confirmed my effectiveness and impact as a leader in business and the corporate space.
Take us back to when you first launched your business; what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?
When I began my business, I leveraged my recently launched #1 Best Selling Book as a springboard to marketing our Empowerment Products and Services, launching officially as a service-based company. Promotion of our services were also printed throughout the book. My website was updated for promoting the book and offering a free gift that would be accessible from the landing page launched to share a video called “More Beyond the Story” and an opt-in to ioin our mailing list for the free gift. The book was used to help drive potential clients and customers to our website and was heavily marketed through social media the week of the book launch. The marketing launch plan went according to plan as it was a proven and tested strategy shared with me by other best sellers.
What is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way so far and what have you learned from it?
I would say my biggest challenge has been really to develop an effective social media marketing plan with a partner, that I can delegate but still have part in managing with a busy schedule and full plate attending to other areas of business. Finding a social media manager that I could establish trust in to help promote my brand and my message with balance, has been a journey as I am still navigating that process.
As social media continues to evolve, we all have to find ways to navigate! What accomplishment are the most proud of to date in your business?
My most proud moment and accomplishment thus far, has been the achievement of writing my first book and having it hit #1 best seller within 24 hours of its release and reaching beyond my initial target audience of ambitious women but blessing and impacting lives, men and women from all walks of life.
Do you have any recent wins from the last year that you’d like to celebrate with our community?
I recently became a Founding Member of a Women’s Empowerment group that has positioned me to make global connections and work with prominent women that have global reach.
Congrats, Quiana! What’s next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?
I have plans to expand our service offerings into live on-site women empowerment events as well as empowerment retreats. I will also soon be launching a women’s exclusive empowerment circle, which would allow women CEOs to focus on the fullness of life and not just business success alone, but their body, mind and soul, which are equally important to achieving remarkable success.
What is your top productivity tip?
Work/life balance and self-care are essential to long term productivity. One thing that helps me have balance is that, I set monthly and weekly work/business goals, but I also set monthly and weekly self-care and health and wellness goals. Working diligently towards those business goals are great, but self-care and enjoyment along the journey is just as important to avoid burn out and contribute to long term productivity.
What is one thing you wish you had known when you started your Entreprenista journey?
Make establishing your circle of support a priority, early along the entrepreneurial journey, ideally with like-minded women entrepreneurs that can relate to the ups and downs of entrepreneurship and can provide support and encouragement along the way. Navigating this journey can be a challenge and it’s a good thing to have a circle of support, early on to help overcome them. Plus, you can learn from others who have experienced business success and potentially avoid costly mistakes from the beginning.
Are you a Mamaprenista? If so, please share your best advice for simultaneously managing a business and a family:
As a Mamaprenista, I strive to keep proper priority of family and life in this order: God first, family second, and business third. Staying rooted and grounded in faith as a foundational support is important for me, Family time and planning for it is essential on top of that and knowing that I am giving those two things the attention it requires, that helps me strive more in the area of business.
What is your favorite business tool or solution and why?
One of my favorite business tools I currently use, is Paperbell. It is an online business management tool for coaches and consultants that helps to efficiently manage multiple programs and services for scheduling, billing, contract signing, and client history data. It integrates with your calendar, email, and payment processing and provides built-in automation for efficiency.
What advice do you have for aspiring Entreprenistas?
Keep in mind that this journey of building your own dreams and pursuing your own goals of success won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.
