Noor Ali Shares About her Healthcare Insurance Consulting Practice
Hi Noor! Please share a brief introduction about yourself and your business:
I’m Dr. Noor Ali, I’m a Bangladeshi-American medical doctor turned health insurance expert from NYC. I currently run my own health insurance consulting practice, Dr. Noor Ali Healthcare Advisor, out of Tampa, Florida, offering a healthcare insurance strategy to female founders all over the nation. When I’m not working, you can find me curled up in bed with a book.
What a terrific mission! What excites you about being an Entreprenista League member?
Press opportunities and business opportunities such as new clients, product sales, and podcasting opportunities.
What made you take the leap to start your own business?
Failure. I failed a portion of a licensing exam and it put me in a really dark and depressing time. I needed a win in my life and when this opportunity presented itself, I jumped on it and figured it out.
What was your background prior to starting the consulting practice?
Internal medicine and general surgery. I was a medical doctor with zero business knowledge or acumen.
Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
Not really. But in hindsight, I had always expressed the habits and patterns that I do daily in my business to be successful.
Take us back to when you first launched your business, what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?
Cold calling! It was a lot of hard work, but it worked. It was what I needed to grow.
What is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way and what did you learn from it?
Making poor marketing investments. I learned that marketing theory was the biggest gap in my knowledge and I didn’t make smart marketing decisions. So, I sought out curriculums where I would learn what I needed to learn to make better executive decisions. I ended up learning Digital Marketing Strategy from Yale and it was one of the best investment decisions for my business.
What a great bounceback! What is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?
Founding an international award-winning (awarded by United Nations in 2014) community project offering free ante-natal care to slum-dwelling women in Bangladesh.
Do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?
Yes! I have days where I am focused solely on my business and clients and I am not worried about my home or child. Then there are days where I am focused on being a mom and a wife and taking care of myself and my home and I am not at my desk at all. I alternate these days for my perfect balance.
What’s a piece of advice you can share that you wish you’d known when you first started your Entreprenista journey?
The key is to relax knowing that you are already there. The frantic hustle culture and energy doesn’t help.
What have you achieved recently that you’d like to celebrate with our community?
I launched the first signature event for my company Think Like A Woman—The Empresaria Brunch experience. I am so excited at how successful it was and now I have a tour of cities and events for 2024.
What’s next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?
I am entering the fashion and retail space with a fragrance. It’s very scary and exciting to just keep building companies. I love learning that I am really good at this and I can do this!
