Describe your business in a few words:
My name is Tamara Starr and I am a multimedia journalist and UX/UI Designer. I started Starr UX Design and Composition, LLC in 2019, and I just launched Emperial Samaritan! What I love about this website is that I can now feature stories about New Yorkers who choose to give back! Philanthropy and non-profit work has always been a passion of mine, and now I am grateful that I can incorporate that with my career.
What was your background prior to starting your own business?
Multimedia journalist and UX/UI Designer...but I did work as a Certified Pharmacy Technician for 12 years.
Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
Absolutely! And I blame my father for that. He showed me that by being an entrepreneur...YOU can set the pace. And I love that.
Take us back to when you first launched your business, what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?
I feel like nothing ever goes as planned... But that's why you have to be able to adapt to any situation. For me, it was all about sharing word-of-mouth and within my social groups (online and in-person).
What is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?
Launching the website and booking interviews!
Do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?
I can not survive without a work/life balance! And I feel that the best tip is to set limits. Make sure that family is always first, but also set clear working hours...
What have you achieved recently that you'd like to celebrate with our community?
That I reached 1,000 views within the first month! And I know that it will only grow - so please subscribe to our free newsletter!
What's next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?
I want to start offering contests and giveaways, and this will include offering an all-expense-paid trip to give back in another country.
What excites you about being an Entreprenista League member?
I just love meeting so many women who have chosen to create their own destiny! Every meeting that I attend is so inspiring, and there are so many opportunities to collaborate with others.
