Describe your business in a few words:

I’m Megan, Owner of Megan Donadio Social – a Digital Marketing Agency that specializes in building & managing Facebook and Instagram ad campaigns. As I made my leap into Digital Marketing, I brought with me 13 years of experience in project management & IT support services… to directing internal operations and business development activities. The activity I enjoyed most and continuously gravitated towards was identifying weaknesses & implementing strategic fixes for my customers. I wanted to bring this into my Agency as well, because it’s such a valuable service and can really make a significant difference for business owners in long-term profitability and scalability! My passion is helping female entrepreneurs achieve their business goals by pairing Paid Advertising with Strategy.

What was your background prior to starting your own business?

I worked in the corporate world supporting various federal contracts, with a focus in project management and process improvement. I’ve held several roles over the years – most recently Director of Operations.

Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?

Yes!

Take us back to when you first launched your business, what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?

My very first business.. oh no. It was an eCommerce business and I had no idea what I was doing! Well, I thought I did. Turns out I didn’t. I wasted a lot of time and money guessing my way through the marketing aspect of building that business. Though I learned many lessons, and it put me on the path I’m on today. Had I not taken that painful journey into eCommerce, I never would have discovered Digital Marketing and realized how much I enjoyed it!

What is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?

To be quite honest, I’m really proud of how I soldiered through the chaos and upset of my father’s diagnoses and really plowed into this full-speed ahead. I look back and I wonder how I managed to focus at all. It was a stressful time.

Do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?

Whew, yes! I didn’t really think I did until I hit a wall. I love working. I love getting things accomplished. Nothing bugs me more than sitting on my butt watching TV for hours. I just can’t – it’s not me! So making myself unwind and take the time to decompress was a huge challenge. But my advice is to push through and set boundaries for yourself. You can’t work 24/7. You can try — but it won’t last. Your body will eventually rebel, as mine did! Give your mind time to just… exist. Decompress. Zone out. I’ve learned that some of my most creative ideas come to me while I’m just zoned out. I mean, think about it… if your mind is constantly full 24/7 of all the work you have to do… there won’t ever be space for innovation and creativity.

What have you achieved recently that you’d like to celebrate with our community?

My 6th month in business for myself! Woooohooo!

What’s next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?

I am working on building out a program to teach other women – like myself – how to become Digital Marketers just as I did. This has been such an enriching experience for me, and I want to share it with as many women as I can.
