Marketing Maven Brooke Latham on Launching Social Canvas

Fitriya-Mohamed-4

Hello Brooke! Please share a little bit about yourself.

As a marketing strategist, I am passionate about helping business owners grow their brands by creating comprehensive sales funnels designed to attract, convert and retain their ideal clients. My business, Social Canvas, is a full-service marketing agency specializing in working with organizations of purpose.

What excites you about being an Entreprenista League member?

This community is absolutely incredible. I have connected with so many women and learned so much!

What made you take the leap to start Social Canvas?

Honestly, I didn’t set out to start my own business it just sort of happened! I left my job feeling unsatisfied, and as I was working as a freelancer my business just sort of took on a life of its own and has grown so much!

What was your background prior to becoming an entreprenista?

My background was in the art world working at galleries, an auction house and a public art nonprofit.

Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?

I think it was always in me but it took some time working a desk job to realize that I didn’t want to do that forever. I get such a sense of purpose building something rather than working a 9-5.

Getting the word out about a new business can be difficult. What was your first marketing strategy?

In the beginning my marketing strategy was very reliant upon my network. Luckily I had built a very strong network while living in New York and that allowed me to attract those initial clients. But what I did do from the beginning was develop a strong brand identity which has allowed us to hold people’s attention.

So Brooke, what is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way?

Developing my leadership skills was hard! I really struggled to deliver difficult news and hold people accountable or give critical feedback. But I have learned that having those more challenging conversations actually strengthens relationships in the end.

Brooke you have lots to celebrate! What is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?

I’m really proud of the results we’ve achieved with our clients. Nothing makes me more proud than the fact that we have helped our clients grow their purpose-driven businesses.

Do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?

100%! 1. Automate as much as you can (so long as you can keep your communications authentic). 2. One of the best things I did was hiring our operations manager!

What’s a piece of advice you can share that you wish you’d known when you first started your Entreprenista journey?

Participate in communities as much as possible!

What have you achieved recently that you’d like to celebrate with our community?

We have just launched our new service, Growth Solutions, which focuses on bottom of funnel marketing (retention, referrals, reviews, upsells, etc.) which I feel gets overlooked too often. We do this by thinking outside of the box with our clients to make sure they are delivering the best experience for their customers.

What’s next for Social Canvas?

We’re developing a course, which I can’t wait to share with you all!
