Mamaprenista Candice D’Angelo reflects on Launching ‘The Selling Lab’
Below is a brief introduction about Candice D’Angelo and her business, The Selling Lab:
Candice D’Angelo – a corporate dropout with 12+ years of sales experience – is the founder of The Selling Lab, a sales training agency where online and offline businesses alike come to level up their sales skills and build custom trainings.
So Candice, what excites you about being an Entreprenista League member?
Being able to easily connect with other women that are on the same journey as myself.
What made you take the leap to start your own mamaprenista journey?
I wanted to be a mom without sacrificing my ambitious soul. So off I went to become a mompreneur. I learned how to have the best of both worlds.
What was your background prior to starting your own business?
I was a head hunter for 6 years and then outside medical sales for 6.
Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
No, I didn’t always think about owning my own business but I always tried to mold other businesses that I worked in to be more efficient to bring in more money.
When launching a new business, marketing is a crucial component to spread the word about your biz! What was your first marketing strategy during the early days?
Everything I did was locally, word of mouth and by foot. Once the pandemic hit, I had to transition into the online space, and I was totally the new girl in school. I felt vulnerable and OLD!
As entreprenuers, our growth mindset lets us learn from hardships. Candice, would you say is the biggest challenge you faced as a mamaprenista so far?
The biggest challenge I have had in my business is believing that I could do it. I learned that my mindset is the only thing stopping me from surpassing my dreams and launching into the atmosphere. Once I realized that, I had to hide the negative dialog that I was placing on myself, and then I was off to the races.
Candice, what is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?
Hiring my team and keeping them. It’s hard enough to run a business for yourself, but It’s truly something different when other people are relying on you for their livelihood. It puts everything in a different light.
Ah, we all want to believe in work/life balance. But real talk- do you actually believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?
I have work life balance. It took me 5 years to get it but I am finally here. My best tips are to be prepared as best as possible. Prep your meals, prep your calendars and be aware of your cut off times. As a mom of 3 boys and owner of 2 businesses, it’s all about managing your time in a way that let’s you have it all!
What’s a piece of advice you can share that you wish you’d known when you first started your Entreprenista journey?
Your time will come. Just put your head down and keep marching. You’ll get there because you are too ambitious to quit.
Candice, you have lots to celebrate! What have you achieved recently that you’d like to celebrate with our community?
I was able to help my son with his project without sacrificing ANYTHING. I wasn’t stresses, I balanced my time well and I was able to be there for him. He got an A!!!
What’s next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?
We are going fully automated with a plug and play sales dashboard with full processes and procedures and a working sales dashboard in clickup. We are moving back into the philanthropic world with the United Way women untitled program and we are so excited to be a part of something outside of our business.
