Pamela Rivet on Her Faith-Based Women's Lifestyle Brand
February 6, 2025
Please share a brief introduction about yourself and your business:
Hi, I’m Pam Rivet—faith-filled, caffeine-fueled, and passionate about empowering women to rediscover their best selves. I’m the founder of MBS | The Woman Beyond the Cape, a faith-based women’s lifestyle brand. At MBS, we design activewear that doesn’t just look good—it feels good, too, because each piece carries empowering affirmations like “I Am Worthy” and “I Am Enough.”
Our mission is simple: to help women embrace the woman beyond the cape—the essence of who they are when they prioritize themselves, not just the many roles they juggle daily. Whether it’s leggings with tummy control or a community built on inspiration, MBS is here to remind every woman that she’s a superhero—but even superheroes need to take off their capes sometimes.
Who are your customers?
Our customers are women who wear many hats—moms, caregivers, professionals, dream-chasers—and are looking for a way to reconnect with their mind, body, and soul. They’re the kind of women who go from school drop-off to a workout to running errands, all while making it look effortless (even if their coffee is cold by noon).
These women are resilient, strong, and often the last ones on their to-do list. MBS is here to change that by offering activewear and affirmations that make them feel supported, beautiful, and ready to conquer their day.
What was your background prior to starting your own business?
Before MBS, I spent over 16 years in the banking and mortgage industry, where I still work as a Managing Senior Loan Officer. While I was passionate about helping people achieve their dreams of homeownership, I always felt there was something more that I was meant to do—a calling that hadn’t yet been fulfilled.
My life before MBS wasn’t without its challenges. For years, I struggled with pain, self-destruction, and a lack of self-worth. I used alcohol to numb the pain of past traumas, battled anger and resentment, and hit rock bottom more times than I can count. But God wasn’t done with me yet. Through His grace, I began to heal. My journey wasn’t about becoming someone new—it was about rediscovering the woman God created me to be. Step by step, I worked through forgiveness, surrender, and redemption.
During this season of transformation, God blessed me with a vision for MBS | The Woman Beyond the Cape. It was clear, powerful, and faith-driven. But what I didn’t expect was that Mandi, someone I barely knew, would be a key part of that vision.
Mandi and I had crossed paths years earlier when we coached Beachbody together, but we were little more than acquaintances. When her name came to me in the vision, I didn’t understand why. It didn’t make sense to me at the time, but I trusted in God’s plan and leaned on my faith. Taking a leap of faith, I asked Mandi to join me in creating MBS. To my relief and joy, she said yes.
Looking back, I can’t imagine doing this without her. She is the perfect partner in this journey—her heart, strength, and passion align beautifully with the mission of MBS. God’s vision was right, and I am so grateful He led me to her. Together, we’ve worked to build more than a business—we’re leading a movement to help women step into their best selves through faith, empowerment, and community.
Balancing my career, my family (three daughters, three bonus kids, and a growing number of grandbabies), and this vision hasn’t always been easy, but every step has been worth it. MBS is proof that when you trust God’s plan, even when it doesn’t make sense, He can take you places you never dreamed possible.
What made you take the leap to start your own business?
Starting MBS wasn’t just a leap; it was an act of faith and surrender. In the midst of my brokenness, God gave me a vision for MBS—a brand that would do more than sell activewear. He showed me a movement that would empower women to find the woman He created them to be.
For years, I had been hiding behind a metaphorical cape, trying to be everything for everyone else while neglecting my own soul. I didn’t believe I was worthy of self-love, grace, or a fresh start. But God showed me differently. He reminded me that I am His masterpiece and that my pain had a purpose—to inspire and uplift others.
MBS is the result of that vision. It’s not just activewear; it’s a reminder to women that they are worthy, loved, and capable of living boldly. Each piece is infused with affirmations to encourage them on their journey. Starting this business meant turning my pain into a purpose greater than myself and trusting God to lead the way.
I knew that if I could find healing and rediscover my worth, so could other women. And if MBS could be the spark that reignites someone’s faith in themselves or their future, then the leap was more than worth it.
Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
Not at all! If you told me a decade ago that I’d be running my own business, I probably would’ve laughed and asked, “Does it come with a cape?”
I’ve always been passionate about helping people, whether it was through fitness, mortgages, or just lending an ear. It wasn’t until I combined my faith, my struggles, and my desire to inspire others that I realized entrepreneurship was where I was meant to be. Looking back, I think the seed was always there—it just took God, the right time (and a lot of coffee) to grow.
Take us back to when you first launched your business; what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?
When we first launched MBS | The Woman Beyond the Cape, our marketing strategy was all about grassroots efforts and connecting with our local community. We partnered with several other women-owned businesses to host pop-ups and events, which allowed us to share the mission of MBS face-to-face.
Those early days were truly special. Our community really showed up for us, and while it took time for people to fully understand the vision behind MBS, we began to notice a shift. Little by little, they not only started to see and understand the mission—they believed in it with us.
Not everything went as planned, though. We tried some paid advertising by working with a social media management company, but it turned out to be a total flop. It was a humbling (and expensive) lesson about finding the right partners who genuinely align with our vision and goals.
Even with those setbacks, we’ve stayed committed to our mission, and now we’re starting to see wider traction outside of our local community. It’s amazing to witness the message of MBS reaching more women who resonate with our brand and what we stand for. The journey has been full of learning and growth, and we’re excited for what’s ahead.
What is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way so far and what have you learned from it?
One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced is realizing that not everyone we hired completely understood us—our brand, our mission, or our vision. While their intentions may have been good, the disconnect cost us valuable time, caused a lot of headaches, and, unfortunately, impacted us financially.
But here’s the silver lining: through these experiences, we learned so much about ourselves as a brand. We gained clarity on exactly how we want MBS | The Woman Beyond the Cape to be presented to the world. It helped us define our values, refine our messaging, and get crystal clear on what we stand for.
This challenge taught us the importance of being selective about who we bring into our circle. Now, we prioritize working with people who not only have the skills but truly align with the heart of our mission. Every setback has helped us grow stronger and more intentional, and for that, we’re grateful.
What accomplishment are the most proud of to date in your business?
What we’re most proud of is the community we’ve built. From the very beginning, our local community of women has been the heart and soul of MBS | The Woman Beyond the Cape.
These women didn’t just show up for us—they truly believe in our mission. They’ve become our die-hard fans, shouting about MBS from the rooftops and sharing their passion for what we stand for. Knowing that we’ve created something that resonates so deeply with them is beyond rewarding.
It’s their unwavering support that keeps us going, and having such an incredible local support system means more to us than we can put into words. We wouldn’t be where we are today without them, and for that, we are endlessly grateful.
Do you have any recent wins from the last year that you'd like to celebrate with our community?
Absolutely! One of our biggest wins this past year was having our blog picked up by NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, and STYLE Magazine. Seeing our mission and message shared on such major platforms was a surreal and humbling moment for us. It’s a testament to the hard work we’ve poured into building MBS | The Woman Beyond the Cape and the belief that our message of empowerment resonates far beyond our local community.
This recognition not only validated the heart of our mission but also opened doors for us to connect with more women who need to hear the message of MBS. It’s been an exciting milestone, and we’re so grateful for the opportunity to share our story on such a wide scale.
What's next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?
The future of MBS | The Woman Beyond the Cape is all about growth, empowerment, and expanding the movement. You can expect several new collections, even more incredible women being lifted up as our Beyond the Cape Icons, and additional products designed to support women’s mind, body, and soul.
Our ultimate dream? Hosting Beyond the Cape Retreats—an immersive experience where women from around the world can come together, recharge, and reconnect with their best selves. This vision is becoming bigger and bigger, and we know it’s going to be something truly transformative.
We’re creating far more than a brand; we’re building a movement. The best part? We’re just getting started.
What is your top productivity tip?
The saying goes, “fail to plan, plan to fail” and although that is the cold hard truth, your plan won’t prevail over a poor mindset or unintentional time spent on the plan. As a recovering workaholic, I spent years making schedules, setting reminders and timers yet still found myself at the end of most days feeling overwhelmed and unaccomplished because there were several things left on my list of work to do, I had skipped my self care practices and had little to no family time. This all shifted the day I had an epiphany; when it comes to work, it doesn’t matter how many hours you put in, it would still yield the same result. What matters is how intentional you are with your time. This mindset shift is a total game changer. Now when I plan my day I schedule my self care and family time first, then work as well as scheduling my phone to go into “do not disturb” mode during my self care and family time. Although I am still doing all of the planning and time blocking techniques, I spend my time more focused because I know that is my only allotted time to complete that task so it must be done with the intention to get it complete. This shift in mindset has allowed me peace of mind, consistent self care time, less rushing out the door, quality time being fully present with my family and restful nights. It’s given me balance, boundaries along with feelings of accomplishment and fulfillment.
On the flip side, how do you avoid burnout?
Overworking yourself will only guarantee you burnout and your cup being left completely empty. You can’t pour from an empty cup. In most cases, this analogy is used to reference self care but having a full cup comes from far more than just self care. It comes from balance and making sure that every night you can rest your head on your pillow knowing you got a win for the day. Getting a win for the day means that you’ve accomplished at least one thing from every essential component; faith, family, passion and work. Self care is important for the sole fact that when you feel good physically, mentally and emotionally, you will show up as the best version of yourself. This means you carry yourself with confidence, have an influential presence, and speak to people with love and compassion. Finding balance and prioritizing self care are the key components of living a life of success, fulfillment, and joy.
What is your approach to work-life balance / integration?
Finding a healthy work-life balance is a constant work in progress, especially when working full-time, managing a business, and having a busy household. One tip that’s helped me is creating non-negotiable boundaries around family and self-care time. For example, I dedicate afternoons to my kids and carve out 30 minutes daily for a workout or devotional time. Prioritizing our well-being doesn’t just recharge you, it helps you show up better for your business and family. Another key is learning to delegate, both at work and at home. It’s okay to ask for help or outsource tasks to free up time for you to enjoy the things you love. Remember, your business thrives when you thrive. So, give yourself grace, focus on what matters most, and know that balance may look different every day.
What is one thing you wish you had known when you started your Entreprenista journey?
I wish I had known that I didn’t have to do it all. Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a strategy for growth.
In the beginning, I felt like I had to juggle everything myself, but the truth is, there are people who genuinely want to help. Whether it’s hiring help, delegating tasks, or leaning on your support system, you don’t have to carry the weight of everything alone.
Focus on what you do best and love most—those tasks where you thrive and bring the most value. For the things you can do but don’t want to or that take too much time, delegate. It’s a game-changer, both for your sanity and for the success of your business.
Entrepreneurship isn’t a solo sport—build your team, lean on others, and watch how much further you can go.
When hiring, what is your go-to interview question?
My go-to interview question is: “What is your WHY? What is the driving force behind the goals you’ve set for yourself?”
I ask this because I want to see and hear the excitement and passion in their answer. When someone talks about their “why,” you can feel their energy and purpose, and that tells me so much about who they are—not just as a potential employee, but as a person. It helps me connect with them on a deeper level and ensures that they have a passion and driving force that we can build on together.
My biggest hiring tip? Don’t just hire for skills—hire for heart. Skills can be taught, but passion, purpose, and a willingness to grow are what truly make someone the right fit. Look for people whose values align with your mission, and you’ll find teammates who are as committed to your vision as you are.
If you've raised capital for your business already, what are some of your best tips or lessons learned?
I have not done this, YET, but it is something I plan to do.
Are you a Mamaprenista? If so, please share your best advice for simultaneously managing a business and a family:
Yes, I am! One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as both a mom and an entrepreneur is the power of communication and keeping my family involved in the journey.
When I first started my business, I found myself trying to juggle it all—family, work, and everything in between—without ever really explaining to my family what I was doing or why. That led to misunderstandings, frustration, and guilt on my part for feeling like I was falling short everywhere.
Now, I make it a point to be verbal and transparent with my family. I share with them the “why” behind my work, explaining what I’m building and how it benefits all of us. I involve them in the process, whether it’s asking for their help with small tasks, brainstorming ideas together, or sharing exciting updates. My kids love hearing about what’s happening with MBS | The Woman Beyond the Cape, and their excitement motivates me even more.
This open communication has created an incredible sense of teamwork in our home. They understand when I need to work late or take a call because they know the purpose behind it. At the same time, I make sure to schedule time just for them—whether it’s a movie night, game time, or simply sitting down and listening to their day.
Including my kids in this journey has not only strengthened our bond but has also given them a front-row seat to what entrepreneurship looks like. They’ve learned that hard work, creativity, and persistence can turn a dream into reality—and that they’re capable of doing it, too.
My advice? Don’t try to do it all in silence. Bring your family into your journey, communicate openly, and let them share in your wins and challenges. You’ll not only find support and understanding but also inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs in your own home.
Do you have a co-founder? If so, how did you find the right one for you and what are your best partnership tips?
I love this question because the answer always surprises people. They’ll ask, “Wait, you didn’t even know her?” And the truth is—no, not really! Mandi and I were more like Facebook acquaintances. We had coached Beachbody together years ago, but we hadn’t spent much time getting to know each other.
So why did I ask her to co-found MBS | The Woman Beyond the Cape with me? Because God put her in my vision. Trust me, even I was a little shocked and confused when her name came to me. I knew she had similar aspirations for empowering women, was deeply family-oriented, and was a dedicated teacher—but that was about it. Still, I leaned on my faith and took a leap of faith by asking her to join me.
Let me tell you, God knew exactly what He was doing. Mandi and I balance each other so well. Where one of us may have weaknesses, the other has strengths. Over the past year, we’ve grown together—personally, emotionally, spiritually, and, of course, with MBS.
My best partnership tip? Trust and communication are everything. Be open, honest, and willing to adapt as you grow. But most of all, if you’re a person of faith, lean into God’s guidance. He knew what I needed before I did, and I couldn’t be more grateful for this partnership and the journey we’re on together.
What's the one app on your phone you absolutely cannot live without and why?
I use this app regularly as a way to have a “lookback.” Whenever those limiting beliefs start creeping in, I find myself scrolling through old pictures and videos, and it’s the absolute best reminder of how far I’ve come, how much I’ve grown, and all the incredible moments that have happened in my life.
It’s so easy to forget how we looked and felt in certain moments, and looking back allows me to take myself back there and really feel those emotions again. Of course, not every lookback is easy—some of those older photos bring back tough memories. But even those moments fill me with pride because they remind me of how much I’ve grown and how I’m no longer “that” person anymore.
Photos are more than memories—they’re proof of the journey, the struggles, and the triumphs that make me who I am today.
What is your favorite business tool or solution and why?
Google Drive—hands down! This app is the backbone of how we operate at MBS | The Woman Beyond the Cape. It’s where everything goes. From documents and folders to videos and planning materials, it keeps us organized and ensures that my business partner and I stay on the same page, no matter where we are.
It’s also been a game-changer when working with people we hire. Sharing files and collaborating in real-time is seamless, and it keeps everything easily accessible for everyone involved. Honestly, I can’t imagine running MBS without it!
What advice do you have for aspiring Entreprenistas?
YOU CAN DO THIS.
I’ve had—and honestly still have—plenty of days where limiting beliefs creep in. Thoughts like, “You’re not worthy,” “Who do you think you are?” or “You’re not capable.” But here’s the truth: those thoughts are liars. When they show up, you have to dig deep, tell them to shove it, and remind yourself exactly WHO YOU ARE.
Here’s a game-changer: Make a ‘Badass List.’ Start from your childhood and write down every badass thing you’ve ever done—from the small wins to the big ones. Keep adding to it as you go. Then, every time those limiting beliefs creep in, pull out that list and remind yourself of all the amazing things you’ve already accomplished. It’s proof that you’re stronger, braver, and more capable than you think.
Also, make friends with fear. Don’t try to stop it—it’s not going anywhere. Instead, let fear ride in the passenger seat, but never, ever let it grab the wheel. Fear doesn’t have to control you, and when you show it who’s boss, you’ll realize you’re capable of so much more than you imagined.
Finally, remember this: Rejection is God’s redirection. If it’s a “no,” it’s either not meant for you or it’s a “not yet.” Trust that every redirection is part of His plan to lead you to something better.
Always, always remember: You are strong. You are capable. You are worthy. Keep going—you’ve got this!
