Mamaprenista Caitlin Correa on Utilizing her Skills to Launch an Online Business of Her Own
December 30, 2022
Please share a brief introduction about yourself and your business:
I'm a podcast manager and content strategist for female entrepreneurs in the coaching, creative and consulting industries. I have a bachelors degree in journalism and news media and started my online business, Caitlin Correa Media, back in 2019 as a virtual assistant and quickly realized I loved the podcast space and helping females spread their voice and message to their audience. I also work with content and help podcasters repurpose their audio and video to spread across all social channels. In my spare time, I'm busy as a mom to my 4 children.
What excites you about being an Entreprenista League member?
I love the idea of networking with strong female entrepreneurs; learning from them, creating strong connections and collaborating.
What made you take the leap to start your own business?
I wanted the freedom and the time to give my children/family the attention they deserved, but I also wanted to contribute financially with a career I was passionate about.
What was your background prior to starting your own business?
I have a news media and journalism degree from SUNY Plattsburgh and worked for several small publications as a reporter. I also worked in insurance in customer service and marketing.
Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
I never imagined I would be an entrepreneur. Neither of my parents are entrepreneurs, and I had to idea that there was such a vast space in the online and virtual business space.
Take us back to when you first launched your business, what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?
I really didn't have much of a plan other than to announce it on my Facebook page to my family and friends and to start using my Instagram to showcase my services as much as possible. I also utilized Facebook groups to find clients which worked great!
What is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way and what did you learn from it?
The fact that I'm an introvert is something I have had to learn how to work to my advantage, and it's been hard trying to navigate networking as someone who's not naturally outgoing. I've learned how to use being an introvert as an advantage and leverage it.
What is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?
Launching almost 10 podcasts for female entrepreneurs, and all of the amazing clients I have had the privilege of helping.
Do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?
Yes, definitely! As a mom of 4, I've had to learn how to time block and make sure that when I am spending designated time with my family that I intentionally leave my work and anything that could distract me (like social media) behind so I can solely focus on them.
What's a piece of advice you can share that you wish you'd known when you first started your Entreprenista journey?
That you will fail and sometimes things won't go as planned, but to keep going and believing in yourself. It can be easy to fall into a trap where you think that being an entrepreneur isn't working and it isn't worth it and you should just quit - but it's worth it! Don't let imposter syndrome and fear of failure keep you from living your dream!
What have you achieved recently that you'd like to celebrate with our community?
I added the content strategy piece as an actual stand alone service that I'm now offering to everyone!
What's next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?
I'd like to expand even further and offer some digital products and offerings for anyone who would like to work on a podcast or content.
