Emily Walker Created Her Own Freedom With a Medical Credentialing Business
May 13, 2024
Hi, Emily! Please share a brief introduction about yourself and your business:
Hi, I'm Emily, the owner of Integrity Medical Credentialing Services. I help providers build a strong base for their practice by ensuring they are connected correctly to the insurance companies needed and that their credentialing and information are accurate and current.
What excites you about being an Entreprenista League member?
The realness of the women genuinely wanting each other to succeed. This is the type of friendship I've been looking for.
What made you take the leap to start your own business?
I came from a toxic workplace that lacked standards and morals. It was taking me away from my family and I was too stressed.
We're so grateful you left that environment. What was your background prior to starting your own business?
I have a wide variety of skills but have always incorporated consulting into every place I've worked. I have medical billing and credentialing experience.
Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
Yes. I hate working for others because they end up not following through on promises, toxic, or backstabbing me. I want to create the working environment that I wish I had.
Take us back to when you first launched your business, what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?
I just started marketing this January, and the strategy is to be everywhere potential clients would be. Facebook has been the biggest success.
What is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way and what did you learn from it?
Making the money stretch so that it keeps the business going and still brings in clients
What is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?
I'm going to my first conference in April and have another schedule in June. I'm applying to speak at my first conference for a national conference. Huge opportunities and I'm excited!
That's something to be so proud of! Do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?
Yes, I keep all my work stuff in a separate room and treat it like an office. When business hours are over, I don't touch work documents. I make sure to schedule time for kids throughout the day, so I'm not at my desk all day, every day.
What's a piece of advice you can share that you wish you'd known when you first started your Entreprenista journey?
You are capable. You are worth it. You will succeed. Own your worth.
Such strong words. What have you achieved recently that you'd like to celebrate with our community?
I've made several connections and gained clients from the articles I've written; It's a nice validation to have others say that what I wrote is expert advice and exactly what they need.
What's next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?
Next, I want to line up more speaking events, give classes to providers about to graduate, and hopefully, hire full-time employees because I have so much work. I want to make half a mil by next year so got some work to do.
